Hi, I'm Maddy.
I am a bubbly, optimistic nerd. I love reading, playing video games, and trying new recipes. You can typically find me at a library or perusing a museum when I'm not wearing my therapist hat.
Coming to therapy and sharing the most vulnerable parts of yourself with a stranger is never simple. My whole job is to make sure you don't have to leave any part of you at the door.
My name is Maddy (she/they) and I am a bubbly, optimistic nerd. I love reading, playing video games, and trying new recipes. You can typically find me at a library or perusing a museum when I'm not wearing my therapist hat. Fun fact, I have 7 library cards, and boy do I get my use out of them! Speaking of numbers, I have 13 tattoos and 2 cats, and I love talking about both! If you ever want to see a cute cat, just ask about Nori or Tuna (yes there is a sushi theme). In therapy, my human self shows up as an empathetic, kind human who is here to guide the therapeutic process.
First, the human stuff:
What is it like to be in therapy with you?
While in therapy with me you can expect to feel heard, validated, and understood. There is comfort amongst the uncomfortability of change and emotions. You can expect creativity and playfulness while also sitting in the complex moments of life with you. I use humor as a tool to bring joy and curiosity to challenge automatic thoughts. My therapy space practices holding duality just as we need to in life hold multiple truths at once. Being in therapy with me is messy and human!
Your style as a therapist?
My style is warm, slow, and non-judgemental. I prioritize the human connection, which includes making a joke time to time. I follow my client's lead while also challenging new thinking with curiosity. I like to think of myself as an empathetic scientist. We figure out together what works, what doesn't, and what patterns exist so that we have the capacity to change them if we want to! I have training in attachment-based family therapy, which means I look through a systemic lens. That includes cultural systems, beliefs, familial, or even chronological systems (scary times out there). I am also a dance/movement therapist, which means my style is creative, flexible, and often focuses on how systems impact the body and its nervous system. At the end of the session, I guide us towards lightness, release of tension, or even joy to help you reset.
Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who is ready to critically think about the systems they exist in. They are tired of needing to be perfect or a people pleaser. My ideal client is someone who has had negative experiences in therapy and hopes to regain trust in the mental health system. I want to work with folks who say therapy isn't for them to reintroduce curiosity of the self and show how simple awareness can be the key to change. If you want a new perspective or to gain connection with your body and nervous system, I'm the therapist for you!
Any qualifications you want to share (specialties, trainings etc).
I am a registered Dance/Movement Therapist, which means I received specialized education on how to use the body, movement, and dance to aid therapy progress. This training informs how I take in information, what questions I ask, and the interventions I use. The client has the autonomy to choose how they interact with this aspect of my therapeutic training and style.
